Swapmeet

Isik's parents immigrated to the United States from Turkey when Isik was 3 years old. They lived in Conneticut for a short period of time and decided they wanted to go out to the West Coast. They ended up settling in Newport Beach, CA. Isik's father imported Turkish Copper and other items and every Saturday and Sunday Isik along with his father and two brothers worked the Swapmeet at the Orange County Fairgrounds. I love when we visit Newport because Isik always gives us the tour of his old houses, The Boys Club, Newport Harbor High, the hills he used to ride bikes and skateboards down, Jack's Surf Shop, and other places he spent time at as a child. This day was especially special for me because I've heard so many stories about the Swapmeet that it was great to finally see this for myself and take in the experience. Everything you can imagine is for sale, including nice furniture. It was hot and walking up and down the isles and looking at hundreds of items was tiring. After a couple of hours we were done, I can't imagine spending two days every weekend there from open to close. I love my husband and the hard worker he is today and has always been!

Pretty amazing when we get to delve into the ways and traditions of others. I had a pretty awesome swapmeet like this by my house in Las Vegas. It was so interesting to go and talk to the people working the booths. Also to look at the variety and diversity of what they sold there.
