Camping with a boat

We planned to go to Yuba Lake boating for Memorial Day Weekend. We spent the entire weekend prior cleaning the boat and getting it ready, and it looks fantastic! We had several families originally planning on going, so we were taking two different boats; however, several canceled so we ended up taking one boat. We got there late Friday night and camped in the camp ground instead of trying to find a campsite in the dark.
Saturday morning Isik and Adam found us the perfect site! There was noone else camping near us and the scenery was beautiful! The kids were able to climb the rocks and the hill and explore. The dogs were able to run freely.

The morning was overcast and once we got camp set up it was looking pretty gloomy, so we didn't take the boat out. The rain did start and it didn't stop.
Austin, Sam, Tyson (Adam's son), and Seth (Tyson's cousin) roasting marshmellows in the rain! While the kids were standing around the fire, the adults were sitting under the canopy keeping dry.The next morning, the rain had stopped. The cliffs and rocks were beautiful with the fog.

The dogs loved being able to just roam.

Adam hanging out in the boat. We ended up going camping with a boat, not boating and camping. Although everything was wet and dirty, including us, it was a great time!

This was a flock of Pelicans.
After we got everything packed up the sun was blazing. We decided to come home because everything was wet and dirty and it would take us a day to get everything cleaned up.
Here is Tyson and Leo finding some shade.
Austin driving the Rzr
Sam LOVES the Rzr! He doesn't stop smiling from the time he gets in to the time he gets out.

Poor Charlie! He went from looking like a mop, dripping wet, to having stickers and twigs stuck in his hair, to just dirty! I think he was a happy dog though!

Roscoe loves to nap!
My happy Leo!

Austin killed a baby rattlesnake that was warming up in the sun after all that rain. The snake actually was coiled and struck at him and Tyson.

Fishing

This is at Village Lake in Pagosa Springs. Austin had caught a fish in the first 10 minutes and then after 4 hours, nothing. This was Sam's first time fishing. Surprisingly, he actually enjoyed it although he had a very difficult time talking quietly.
Austin had cast Sam's line out and the top half of the rod feel off. It was great entertainment!
The top half is hanging down.
There were a lot of geese all around us. We even had one swim right up to us, honk at us, and then swim away.
Austin and his fish.

This is Forest Lake, which we went to after not catching anything for 4 hours at Village Lake. It was beautiful!
There were four fish about 3 feet off shore that Austin was determined to catch. He kept throwing a line with bait out there, but nothing. Eventually he accidentally threw the entire line in the water. That was the end of that idea.
Although you can't see them, there were two foxes playing on the other side of the lake.

Around 7 PM, the lake came alive. Fish starting jumping all over the lake. We'd throw our lines in and the fish would jump right by our bobbers. Austin had two fish hooked, but lost them both and one broke his line. We both had several fish steal our bait, sneaky fish!
Austin didn't want to leave until he caught another one. The fish were taunting him all around us!

Our dinner!

I had such a great time hanging out with my boys all day fishing and enjoying nature in its finest form!
